Re: Robert Divers, RN Magic Nurse

To Whom It May Concern:

Robert Divers is an amazing individual! As a nurse, he has taken care of children with disabilities and severe illnesses over the years.

However, he has taken his nursing a step further by incorporating magic as an educational tool. As he described for me, he hopes

that the children become empowered and gain self‐esteem by learning magic and being able to perform for others. He has

definitely done this for the members of our community that he has touched!

He has volunteered for the last two years as the on‐site nurse at our weekend camp program for our Spanish speaking families. Not

only has he served as the nurse in case an emergency arose, he also brought his magic education program to camp. The children

and adults alike LOVED him! He utilized his time with them to teach them the benefits of learning a skill, becoming confident in

performing in front of others and how making others smile makes you feel better as well. He spent time with everyone at the camp,

not just the kids with Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida affects the ENTIRE family. The many demands of this birth defect take a toll on the

parents and siblings, with depression being very prominent in siblings. Many people would only have spent their time on the

individual with Spina Bifida. However, Robert sees the big picture and selflessly spent the entire weekend teaching them and even

gave them all magic wands! They were so excited when he came back to camp this year and many had been learning magic

throughout the year!

He was so popular at camp, that we asked him to come be a part of our 2012 Bowlathon Fundraiser and Community event. He not

only donated his time and talent, doing magic tricks and teaching for 4 hours on a Saturday, he also handed out wands and donated

100% of the proceeds from the sale of his magic cards at the event. He brought smiles and new skills to many faces! We have

already asked him to perform for our Holiday Party and he will be serving as a counselor at Camp TLC, our week‐long summer camp

for kids with Spina Bifida. You can visit our website for more information about our camps so you can see what camp life entails.

I can’t recommend Robert Divers enough. He has a gift to work with children with disabilities and illnesses, as well as a giving heart

to share his time and talents to educate them and help improve their lives. A smile can go a long way to healing a child or building

self‐esteem. We appreciate and are thankful that he took the time to develop a fun way to care for the whole child, not just the

illness or the symptom, and is sharing it with our community.
